Direct Station Selection (DSS)/Repertory Dial Key

Definition  
The programmable function keys on optiPoint and OpenStage telephones (or key modules) can be configured as DDS keys. In this case, users program the keys with the number of an internal station or station group. Pressing the DSS key calls the destination station (direct station selection). The associated LED indicates the call status of the station (ringing, busy, free).

Programmable function keys  
The programmable function keys on certain telephones and key modules on the optiPoint 410-, optiPoint 420-, optiPoint 500- and OpenStage family support double key assignment (see Service Manual ). Please note that the following differences in functionality depend on HiPath 3000 version:
 •   V6.0 SMR-05 and earlier:
    Double key assignment in possible if you only program station numbers without LED support on the first level. In the second level, only station numbers without LED support can be programmed. These can be internal station numbers, external station numbers and station numbers from a HiPath network.
 •   V6.0 SMR-06 and later:
    HiPath 3000 Manager E (Settings menu: System Parameters (Station flags)) supports the following two options:
   -   The "enhanced key functionality" flag is not activated (default setting).
The system operates as described for V6.0 SMR-05 and earlier.
   -   The "enhanced key functionality" flag is activated.
Once you have defined a key of your choice as the "shift key", you can only program station numbers without LED support on the second key level that is now available. You can program any key functions you like on the first key level. LED signaling only works for the first key level.
   
Important:LED signaling only works for the first key level! In other words: The same key may be assigned a number X on the first key level and a number Y on the second key level. If the user now switches to the second key level, the LED signaling will not apply to the number Y, but still to the number X.  
The shift key LED lights up when the Shift function is active. This signals that phone numbers are available on the second key level.
The Shift function deactivates if you press a station number key or if you press the shift key again.
The function keys on optiPoint BLFs do not support double key assignment.

 •   Exclusive call hold = the slowly flashing LED is only displayed to the station holding the call.
 •   General call hold = the slowly flashing LED is presented to all stations at which the held station is programmed on this key.
Flickering
(50 ms on/100 ms off)  
Your own station is being called by the station programmed on this key.  
Immediate connection with the calling station.  
Note: Multiple parallel waiting calls are signaled by the flickering of several DSS keys, provided that the respective stations are programmed on those keys. The subscriber being called can select and answer a call by pressing one of the flickering keys, regardless of the call shown on the display.  
Irregular flashing1
(450 ms on/50 ms off)  
Station is in "Do not disturb (DND)" status.  
An authorized station can override DND, in which case a busy signal sounds for five seconds. The destination station then receives a call (not a speaker call).

The DSS key is also used as a means to quickly transfer an incoming call to another station. The user, during a conversation with an external party, can press a DSS key; this places the current call on Consultation Hold. The user can then transfer the call screened or unscreened to the DSS destination. If the destination does not answer, a recall is effected and the user can retrieve the call by pressing the DSS key once again.
A DSS appearance can appear on multiple stations. A station cannot have a DSS key with its station on the telephone.
The HiPath 3000 has programmable Repertory Dial (Repdial) keys. Repdial keys store destination numbers. Feature access codes cannot be stored under a Repdial key. External destinations up to 25 digits, including the trunk, trunk group, and LCR access code, can be stored under a Repdial key as well as internal Call Group numbers. When operating the repdial key, the LED is not functional.
Programming of RepDial destinations and DSS keys must be done via HiPath 3000/5000 Manager E in the case of non-display telephones. DSS keys can also be programmed by the user on a display telephone.
