VPN Virtual Private Network |
Definition |
| HiPath sets up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) in the Internet. A VPN makes use of the Internet's public infrastructure. IPSec encryption and authentication mechanisms ensure that site-to-site networks, teleworker gateways, and communication channels to freelance staff are secured against unauthorized access and therefore trustworthy (hence the term "private"). |
| There are two types of networks: |
| • | Site-to-site VPN |
| • | Remote access VPN (for remote access by field staff) |
| The VPN features are: |
| • | Basic system support VPN function with HiPath systems |
| • | Licensing of the IPSec encryption mechanisms by the integrated Light Weight Certification Authority. |
| • | Tunnel: Secure VPN connection to another VPN gateway or VPN client |
| • | Authentication |
| • | IPSec: Authentication and confidentiality through ESP |
| • | Integrated Light Weight Certification Authority |
| • | Teleworker gateway to the VPN (Safenet Sentinel) |
| • | Automatic reconnect (automatic reconnection to the Internet after forced disconnection) |
