Definition  
In private networks, users can assign station numbers, trunk access codes, and feature codes according to a customer-defined numbering plan.
HiPath 3000/5000 supports the following types of numbering:
 •   Closed numbering
assumes the uniqueness of all station numbers in the network. Any station in the network can reach any other station by dialing its number.
 •   Open numbering
means that a station is identified by a node number (PABX number) and its station number. This could mean that stations in different nodes (systems) have the same station number.
 •   E.164 numbering (on HiPath 3000/5000 from V7 for all systems)
The numbering can be closed or open. A node number is not required. Stations can be reached via their public station number, that is, their E.164 station number. Every station is represented by its E.164 station number that can be optimized for display. The advantage of E.164 numbering plans is that you can reach a station via a station number and no node number is required.
   
A HiPath 5000 RSM network can only have closed numbering.  
   
In a HiPath 3000/5000 network you must select the same type of numbering for all nodes.
